Cortlandt Manor Fire Victims

Let’s rally for our neighbors in Cortlandt Manor who lost their rental home and possessions in a fire on October 27th, 2023. Unfortunately the family had no rental insurance. Fire victims Nabien Borja, his partner Mariella, their 9 month old daughter, and 4 and 11 year old sons have been displaced. With our strategic partnership with IFCA, we hope to provide clothing for the family, but more is needed to help them get back on their feet. Please donate by clicking above so that we can provide assistance to this family during their time of need.

Remembering Anthony Joseph Gullotta

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Anthony Gullotta. Gullotta House was founded in 2015 in dedication to Anthony and his wife Carolann.

Anthony Joseph Gullotta, surrounded by his loving wife and children, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Anthony was born on January 29, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of John and Frances Allesi Gullotta. He was the youngest of four children, grew up in Pleasantville, New York and attended Stepinac High School.

Following high school, Anthony joined the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the service, he followed in his family’s footsteps where he became a Master Mechanic in the Masonry and Bricklayers Union. He was a member for over fifty years.

As a young boy, he loved the game of golf and played often. This love of the game continued all through his life. Anthony passed his love of golf on to his sons and grandsons. He also loved music; playing both the accordion  and the electric organ for many years. Many a Saturday and Sunday, he would play for the children, giving them that same love of music.

Anthony and his family resided in Westchester, New York for many years and later in life they were residents of Austintown, Ohio. While an Austintown resident, he attended St. Joseph Church.

Anthony is survived by his loving wife of over sixty years, Carolann; a loving father to his six children, Theresa and husband, Phil DiPinto, Anthony D. and wife, Joyce DeBree Gullotta, John E. and wife, Denise Vignola Gullotta, Marianne and husband, Salvatore Minardi, Matthew L. and wife, Cinthia Molina Gullotta and Christopher J. and wife, Susan Walsh Gullotta; his thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Gullotta; his brother, Carmello Gullotta and his sisters, Angela Vetta and Lucille Gullotta.

His funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Sleepy Hollow, New York on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a private inurnment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Anthony’s memory to Gullotta House. Proceeds of the memorial donations to Gullotta House will be used strictly as follows:

Gullotta House Needs a Home” campaign to purchase a house to provide temporary shelter for fire and flood victims for 29 days after residents are displaced by such disasters, including clothing, meals and laundry services.

Carl Nunziato VA Clinic, 1815 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH 44504:
We will also help up to 5 families with a loved one in a hospice facility or utilizing home hospice  care. You are not alone. Having experienced this with friends, parents, and acquaintances,  Gullotta House understands. We will try and help with a simple meal, gas card, small check or just a ride to help out. We thank all nurses and hospice staff. The families appreciate all that you do.

THANKS FOR HELPING GULLOTTA HOUSE QUALIFY FOR A $5,000 BONUS GRANT!

A PHOTO FINISH FOR WEEK 1 BONUS CHALLENGE

We won!  I am stoked, humbled and in awe.

Sponsored by the USA TODAY Network’s parent company Gannett, the 2022 A Community Thrives program is a nationwide, crowdfunding program that will grant over $2 million to eligible nonprofit organizations for specific projects aimed at social issues including education, housing, arts and culture, wellness and the environment.

In a field with 442 NFPs (not-for-profit organizations), we placed in the top two of the Bonus Challenge Week 1 – Most Unique Donors.  Our 381 supporters rallied in the closing hours to lift us out of third place and to the winner’s circle of the top two.  That surge earned us a $5,000 bonus grant from A Community Thrives.

When you combine the $8,770 donated by you all along with the $5,000 bonus grant your donations earned, just under $14K was raised.  This effort puts us 4% closer to our goal of raising $350K towards having a permanent location to help families displaced by a fire or flood to their home in Westchester County.  Our vision is to provide 3 meals daily, clothes and housing rent-free for 29 days during their time of need.

A COMMUNITY THRIVES UPCOMING BONUS CHALLENGE

There will be another round of the Bonus Challenge which rewards the top three NFPs with the most unique donors beginning August 1st at Noon and lasting through August 8th 11:59 a.m.

Please be aware that donations must be posted on our A Community Thrives fundraising page to count towards this competition.  Donations directly to Gullotta House, such as through the DONATE now button at the top of this page would still be collected by us but would not be tallied for this competition.

We will update this post with the appropriate link.  We will also follow up with a concentrated email campaign.  There’s only two times a year we send out a flurry of emails as a result of the urgency and compressed time of this competition.  We just concluded the first time – beginning the week of July 18th for the Bonus Challenge 1 you all helped us win.

The week beginning August 1st for the Bonus Challenge 3 will be the second time.  So, be on the lookout for that upcoming email blast.  Open, click, donate, forward and share with friends so we can revisit the Winner’s Circle and qualify for the $4,000 bonus grant awarded to the top NFPs in Bonus Challenge 3 of A Community Thrives.
